Arkansas News Bureau LITTLE ROCK — A state senator who filed legislation Friday to set up a state-run lottery for college scholarships said an independent board or commission, not a state agency, should be in charge of running the games.
LITTLE ROCK — Earlier this year, the Tennessee Legislature lowered academic requirements so more college students could keep the awards they received through that state’s scholarship lottery, a change developed after months of debate over what to do with an unintended $460 million surplus in the program.
LITTLE ROCK — With early voting for the November general election starting next week, opponents of Lt. Gov. Bill Halter’s proposed state-run lottery urged the state Supreme Court to remove the measure from the ballot Monday, arguing it does not define lotteries and could open the door for casinos.
Rep. Bill Foster, D-Batavia, will have a lottery to distribute tickets to the Presidential Inauguration.
