A sale or lease of the Iowa Lottery is unlikely but selling other state assets – such as prison farms – is one idea that Gov. Chet Culver will recommend to lawmakers this week as a way to prop up Iowa’s declining revenue, his chief of staff said Saturday.

Gov. Chet Culver, caving in to a firestorm of criticism, said Saturday that the idea of selling or leasing the state lottery would not be included in the state budget he sends to lawmakers this week.

The Florida Lottery has identified the man who scratched off the $1 million Maximum Millions ticket at the West Colonial Chevron as 38-year-old Christopher Dorn of Orlando. Dorn, who was making a delivery at the store when he bought the ticket, told Lottery officials: “I told my boss I’m not going to quit my job. The winnings are all going toward my retirement.”

One winning ticket was sold for the $170,000 cashpot in Saturday night’s drawing for the Washington State Lottery’s Hit 5 game.

DES MOINES – Gov. Chet Culver has no plans to sell or lease the Iowa Lottery to help cover a giant budget shortfall, his top aide said Saturday. ”There is no plan to sell or lease the lottery, period,” Charles Krogmeier, Culver’s chief of staff, told The Associated Press.
